Fixing F10 key issue in QtCreator on Ubuntu

Some of you who worked with QtCreator in Ubuntu 11.04 or above should have faced an annoying issue with F10 key. When debugging with QtCreator F10 key is used to goto nextstep. Unfortunately in Ubuntu, this triggers global keyboard shortcut and shows the first item in panel menu. The fix is pretty simple, here is how.

  1. Run Compiz Configuration Settings manager. If you don’t have it install it from Synaptic Package Manager.
  2. In Compiz Configuration Settings manager goto Ubuntu Unity Plugin ( or type it in filter at top left)
  3. In the Behavior tab disable ( or set something other  than F10) Key to open the first panel menu.

Thats it. You are good to go.
